Chris Hoy and Katarina Johnson-Thompson are among the nominees for the prestigious Charles Tyrwhitt Sports Book Awards 2025, with all 12 category shortlists now revealed. The winners will be announced on May 1st at a ceremony held at the Kia Oval in South London, hosted by ITV Sports presenter Mark Pougatch.
Pougatch expressed his excitement about the event, saying, “As always, it’s a fantastic shortlist for 2025, and I’m looking forward to hosting the awards again. It’s been a pleasure to be part of the judging panel for the Best Sports Writing category.”
In addition to the official judging panel, the public will have the opportunity to vote in three categories: the Charles Tyrwhitt Autobiography of the Year, Sports Entertainment Book of the Year, and Sports Performance Book of the Year.
Johnson-Thompson, who earned a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, is nominated in the Best Autobiography category alongside other sporting legends such as Hoy. Reflecting on her nomination, she said, “It’s an honor to be shortlisted for Best Autobiography at the Sports Book Awards 2025 alongside so many incredible personalities. Writing this book was a deeply personal journey, reflecting on the highs, lows, and everything in between.”
Jimmy Anderson, England and Lancashire’s all-time leading wicket-taker, also received a nomination in the Best Autobiography category. He said, “I’m delighted to be nominated alongside such sporting greats and want to thank my co-author Felix White, my family, and my friends for making this journey unforgettable and helping my book achieve such success.”
Other notable nominees across various categories include journalist Trevor McDonald, rugby star Mike Tindall, cricketer Azeem Rafiq, Olympic sprinter Jonnie Peacock, and YouTube personality Russ Cook, also known as “Hardest Geezer.”
Several prestigious awards will be presented at the ceremony, including the Vikki Orvice Award for Women’s Sports Writing, Children’s Sports Book of the Year, and the Pinsent Masons Sports Writing Award.
In a special recognition, Roddy Bloomfield, considered a cornerstone of British sports publishing, will be honored with a Special Lifetime Achievement Award. The esteemed panel of judges for this year’s awards includes Olympic Gold medallist Christine Ohuruogu, Match of the Day host Mark Chapman, renowned songwriter Tim Rice, actor and comedian Miles Jupp, and footballer Scott Minto.
